Command Master Chief Martin K. King was
born in Endwell, NY, and graduated High School in 1982. He enlisted in
the United States Navy in 1986, and attended basic training at Recruit
Training Command, Great lakes, Illinois. Upon completion of recruit
training, he attended Aviation Ordnanceman “A” school in Millington,
TN. He reported in November of 1986 to Naval Air Station, Cubi Point,
Philippines. He transferred in December 1989 to the VF-21 “Freelancers”
at NAS Miramar and deployed onboard the USS INDEPENDENCE (CV 62) and
shifted homeport to Atsugi, Japan.
He transferred to NAS Misawa, Japan in July 1993. In August 1996 he
transferred to USS INDEPENDENCE (CV 62) in Yokosuka, Japan. During this
tour he was advanced to Chief Petty Officer.
In July 1998, he cross-decked to USS KITTY HAWK (CV 63), and completed
the homeport change to Yokosuka, Japan. He transferred to the VMFAT-101
“Sharpshooters” at MCAS Miramar in September 1999 as the Maintenance
Material Control Chief. During this tour he was advanced to Senior
Chief.
In October, 2002, he transferred to USS ESSEX (LHD 2) in Sasebo, Japan
as the Deck Department and then Combat Systems Department LCPO. During
this tour, he completed multiple deployments with 31st MEU
and was selected to Master Chief. He reported to Naval Strike and Air
Warfare Center, NAS Fallon, NV, in January 2006 as the Ordnance LCPO.
Upon reporting, he was selected to the Command Master Chief program. He
reported to USS JOHN S. McCAIN (DDG 56), home ported in Yokosuka, Japan,
as Command Master Chief, from May 2007 to December 2009.
In January 2010, he assumed the duties as
the Command Master Chief onboard USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73),
Yokosuka, Japan.
He is a graduate of the US Navy Senior Enlisted Academy, Class 130, and
Command Master Chief / Chief of the Boat capstone course, class 38.
Master Chief King has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy
Commendation Medal (six awards), Navy Achievement Medal (four awards),
as well as other personal, unit and service decorations. |
